An SPF 40 PA+++ sunscreen is the step that protects everything else in your routine. UV Shield is the KAZEN daily sunscreen for the face and neck. It is broad-spectrum, so it covers both UVB rays, which cause sunburn, and UVA rays, which drive tanning and early signs of ageing.

What SPF 40 and PA+++ mean

SPF measures protection from UVB. Applied properly, SPF 40 filters about 97.5% of UVB rays; SPF 50 filters about 98%. The PA rating measures protection from UVA, and PA+++ means high UVA protection. For daily life in India, from the commute to the school run to a desk near a window, SPF 40 with PA+++ is strong, practical protection.

Broad-spectrum UV filters

UV Shield combines modern UV filters, bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine and methylene bis-benzotriazolyl tetramethylbutylphenol (often called Tinosorb S and Tinosorb M), with ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, ethylhexyl salicylate, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Together they cover UVA and UVB. Vitamin E, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and licorice root extract are added so skin does not feel tight or dry after you apply it.

How to apply sunscreen correctly

Use about two finger lengths, roughly a quarter teaspoon, for the face and neck. Most people use half of that, which lowers the protection they actually get. Apply UV Shield as the last step of your morning skincare, about 20 minutes before you go out, and let it set before makeup. Reapply every two hours in direct sun, and after swimming, exercise or heavy sweating.

Sunscreen greatly reduces tanning and sun damage, but no sunscreen blocks UV completely. Around midday, shade, a hat and sunglasses still help.
